Corelli’s Sonata op. 5 no. 7 is an Italian Baroque sonata. Corelli notated his taste in ornamentation in detail, making this work a representative example of Italian-style ornamentation.
Agnes Dorwarth’s Articulator I is a contemporary work for recorder, focusing on changes in articulation and tonguing.
The recorder becomes the primary sound material, with the contrast between one sound and the next placed at the center of the listening experience.
In performance, the differences between articulations need to be handled clearly, allowing the rhythmic drive and layers of timbre to remain stable while leaving room for one’s own interpretation of how the piece speaks.
